Quick & Easy Spring Cleaning Tips

It’s that time of year again, Spring is finally here! The time when we are finally reprieved from harsh winter weather and will no longer be subjected to the terms ‘Polar Vortex’ and ‘9 inches of snow.’ Before we start to stock our homes with new spring décor and outfits to match the weather, let’s start by getting some spring cleaning done.   It’s out with the old and in with the new, as we give you helpful hints to help you energize, prioritize, organize, and sterilize your home this season.

Energize — The first step to energizing in preparation for a long daunting task is doing something that boosts your heart rate and gives you the drive to get things done.  For some, energizing may entail coffee or energy drinks, while others prefer some brief calisthenics or hot yoga.  Whatever it may be, you‘ll want to get revved up for taking on this chore.

Prioritize – Create a plan for where you want to start first. Keep a list of what your objectives are for each day in each room, marking them off as you complete them. It is important to finish each room in its entirety before moving on to the next one.  This will help you to feel like you are progressing instead of moving items from one room to the next.

Organize – Start each room by making “Keep, Toss, Donate” piles.  Toss out anything that you don’t use, especially the things that you continuously tell yourself that you will use but never do. Donate anything that is gently used to a second hand shop or local Salvation Army. Keep the rest, as long as it fits, isn’t broken, or can be fixed in the near future.

Sterilize – Now that you’ve kicked up some dust and dirt, it’s really time to start cleaning.  Avoid using chemicals that may be harmful or cause allergic reactions.  Steam cleaning hard surfaces and fabrics can be a very cost efficient method.  It also helps keep your home from filling with the unwanted smell of harsh chemicals.

And we couldn’t possibly leave out one very important part of spring cleaning: RELAX! After all, you’ve worked hard and deserve a break.

Would you survive a Chicago Zombie Apocalypse?

Zombie Apocalypse, Hyatt Regency O'Hare, drink specials, dining specials, Rosemont, Stephens Convention Center, Walker Stalker, Walking Dead, Walker Stalker Con, Hyatt O'Hare, Red Bar, restaurants in Rosemont, entertainment, things to do

If the Zombie Apocalypse happened right now in Chicago, would you be prepared? Will you survive for the long haul Walking Dead style like Rick & Michonne? Or will your luck run out, like Lori & Shane? If you want to stay alive, you’ll need to have a plan.  Trust us, you don’t want to be without one if (or when) a zombie apocalypse takes over Chicago.

  • DON’T bring your pets along.  It may seem like a natural reaction to grab the family fur ball as you head for the hills, but if rations are scarce, you may have to decide whether it’ll be you or the family pet that eats.
  • DON’T be a loner. There is strength in numbers.  Think “Buddy System”, the kind you have on grade school field trips. The only difference is this buddy will prevent you from being eaten alive.  Plus, chances are, they have supplies and food that you may not.
  • DON’T drive on the freeways. With Chicago traffic, you won’t make it very far before the undead are banging on your driver side window looking for a snack. And we don’t mean the leftover steak dinner from Gibson’s that you grabbed on your escape route.
  • DO stay away from overcrowded areas. We know this may be your last chance to see Navy Pier, The Magnificent Mile, and Wrigley Field, but it’s guaranteed to be the LAST time if you stick around the feeding grounds for hungry walkers.
  • DO stock up on supplies. First aid kits, lighters, CB radio, maps, flash lights, a Katana sword (if you have that kind of thing  lying around), and most importantly, FOOD. These things will definitely come in handy when it comes to survival and fighting off hoards of the walking dead.
  • DO prepare for unpredictable weather. If you plan on surviving the apocalypse in Chicago, you might want to have a winter coat handy. What are the chances that you’d escape near death avoiding zombies in Union Station, but freeze because you weren’t properly dressed for the Polar Vortex?

ALTERNATE OPTIONS: You could take our word for it, or you could attend Walker Stalker Con and speak with stars of Walking Dead, Day of the Dead, and Arrow who clearly have more experience in fighting off the undead than we do.  While you’re at it, you can check out the zombie cocktails that we’re featuring at Red Bar this weekend and they’re sure to give you courage in your quest to outlive the flesh-eating undead.

Spring_Chicago

In two short weeks, Spring will be upon us (weather permitting).  We are definitely looking forward to it! After all, making it through the Polar Vortex parts 1 through 5, we all deserve to see the light at the end of what feels like a never ending tunnel called Winter. Though we can’t guarantee the weather will get any better, we do know of some activities to keep your mind off of it in the meantime:

The Chicago Classic – March 13 – 16, 2014

You’ll be sure to run into a hoard of “walkers” during your visit to the Stephens Convention Center, keep an eye out for the ones that bite!

 St. Patrick’s Day Weekend – March 15 – 16, 2014

In Chicago, for St Patty’s Day the river will flow green. With dining and drink specials at The Smoke Daddy, Tavern on Rush, Hugo’s Frog Bar, and many more restaurants in the Chicagoland area, the luck of the Irish will be with you.

One Night of Queen – March 21, 2014

Gary Mullen and The Works will be preforming for the 12th anniversary of One Night of Queen at the Rosemont Theatre.  Performing fan favorites like Bohemian Rhapsody, Fat Bottomed Girl, and We Are the Champions, Gary Mullen has won the hearts of fans in the United Kingdom, Europe, South Africa, and New Zealand, as he and The Works recreate the look and sound of Queen.
